This series started in early 2014 when I was experimenting with techniques I had learned on a residential weekend. Never satisfied with following the brief I decided to work on my theme at the time which was under the sea. I love circles and these developed into the rocks in the pools. My challenge became how much texture I could create and how to capture the light sparkling on the shallow water.
I love to work in varied colour palettes with my rockpools and base them on beaches around the world. My Mediterranean inspired piece won the Highly Commended Julie Caprara award for use of colour in the national 2015 Embroiderers’ Guild competition and my large Welsh beach won the judges choice at the Cheshire Open studios in 2014.
The rockpool series has attracted both private and corporate commissions and has ranged in size from 10x10cm to 150x200cm to date.
I run a workshop based on this highly popular series called ‘water in stitch’.
