I am based in North Wales and run regular workshops in my Studio near Wrexham. The Inventors Asylum website calendar has all my courses listed here.
Can’t get to Wrexham?
Never fear I can bring the course to you. Below is a list of the most popular courses that I deliver for groups. These are normally over 1, 2 or 3 days and have the option of adding a talk before the course.
Water in stitch
Learn how to capture the light and movement of water in machine stitch and make a picture with voiles, metallic, scrims and sheers. Use a wide range of techniques including creating a colour palette, layering fabrics, bobbin work, freemotion, tricky threads and shading. Students need sewing machines.
Mindful Stitching and memory cloths
Take a break from the hustle of today’s society and let stitching grant you time. Learn about historic uses of stitch and darning and use these ideas to inspire a piece using reclaimed and vintage fabrics and threads. Can be combined with personal items to make memory cloths.
Learn how to use your machine to add texture and depth to your work by using much thicker threads and even yarns via your bobbin. Create a picture in various threads and fabrics. The theme can be set to suit the group. Students need sewing machines with second bobbin case.
Natural/Rust Dye and Stitch
Spend the first day creating dyed fabrics with plants and rust and stitching on tutor made fabrics as well as plains. On day 2 stitch by hand to create unique artworks from the fabrics and even include the dye materials. Will need a well ventilated space or outdoor covered area.
Going in Circles, My journey through Stitch
A look at the unusual route I have taken to get from my beginnings as a student through a mixture of careers to where I am now as a full time textile artist and how it is never too late to do what you want in your life.
Embrace your inner Wabi Sabi
See how the Japanese theory of imperfection can be embraced not only in your artwork but in your life to alter your approach for an ultimately life changing experience.
Talks last approx. 1 hour and I bring lots of examples of work to suit the group and talk.
I can also bring a selection of my dyed fabrics and kits available for the group to purchase if interested.
Courses full day £250
Daytime talk £90, Evening talk £110
